Senior Lecturer Dr. Adam Nixon moderated an event sponsored and funded by the State Department. It was a panel discussion about AI with the Theia Institute (one of DC’s leading think tanks on AI governance and best practices), The World Learning NGO, and 20 Arab journalists visiting from the Middle East.

It was a lively discussion around the role AI is playing in journalism across the planet, especially here in the US, and in the MENA region. Dr. Nixon learned that the Saudis are building an Arabic exclusive LLM modeled after ChatGPT.

Earlier in Dr. Nixon's career, he spent 20 years producing a political talk show that aired in the Middle East and North Africa for the US Agency for Global Media. He described the event as feeling "like a nice homecoming to sit around a table with journalists from the region."
