3-credit study away course launching in Spring 2027 on "All Things Maryland"
Executive Director of the Honors College and Professor of Communication Kristy Maddux is leading "Our Maryland: Equipping Interconnected Leaders." This project is funded by the Do Good Institute's Campus Fund ($23,500).
"Our Maryland" is an Honors College initiative, open to any UMD undergraduates. It’s a three-credit study away course, set to launch in Spring 2027. The project will immerse students in all things Maryland, focusing on six key terms—history, politics, culture, agriculture, ecosystems, and business—trying to teach them about the interconnected challenges facing Maryland in the spirit of preparing them to emerge as the next generation of leaders for this state. They will spend a few days on the Eastern shore, a few days in Western Maryland, and lots of time on a bus traveling around to meet farmers, policymakers, artists, small business owners, city planners, and other practitioners.
Funding will support course development, field experiences across Maryland, expert speakers from around the state and travel for meetings with community leaders, officials, and practitioners.
Congrats, Dr. Maddux! This will be an incredible experience for our undergrads!
