Feature on Emma Zaslavsky's Internship with Dove Hospice
Our i-Mail series features internships COMM students have had and what they've learned from their experiences.
This spotlight showcases Emma Zaslavsky's Marketing Internship with Dove Hospice in New Jersey.
As a Marketing Intern, Emma worked toward her personal and career goals: "Working in senior healthcare fulfilled not just career goals of mine, but also personal. Hospice is a really special industry because it focuses on end of life care. The goal of hospice is to enhance the quality of living for individuals with terminal illness’. I was able to connect with residents and patients by hosting events and activities for them to participate in, network with many professionals in the industry, and curate unique social media posts. I visited various nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, physicians, and senior communities daily in order to get sales up for Dove Hospice."
Emma said her Communication background helped her with the internship. She was able to apply the real world skills she learned in COMM such as the "proper way to communicate and dissect media, so when it comes to curating a social media post or advertisement in our careers, we know how to articulate our message in an appropriate and effective way."
While Emma loved and learned many things throughout her internship, she describes the most important thing to her as, "the people I was working with and the purpose of my role. This internship was so fulfilling as I helped so many families take an important and difficult step in their loved ones life. Every professional I interacted with shaped my perspective for my career. I had the most fun knowing I was doing something good for others and it gave me so much meaning and purpose to be able to help those at the end of their lives."
Way to make a difference, Emma! Congrats on a personally and professionally rewarding internship!
