UMD COMM members presented research and were honored at the 2024 AEJMC conference!

Many UMD COMM department members attended the 107th Annual Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) Conference in Philadelphia, PA, in August 2024.

Sun Young Lee (Associate Professor) served as an elected standing committee member on the Publications Committee.

COMM members attended the conference, won awards, and presented research. The department is proud of their achievements!

Awards won by UMD COMM members: 

  • Sahar Khamis (Associate Professor) received the 2024 Donna Allen Award for Feminist Advocacy from the Commission on the Status of Women

  • Rudy Sunrin Kim (Graduate Student) won first place student paper in the Communicating Science, Health, Environment and Risk Division for "To Be or Not to Be 'Well': A Concept Explication of Well-Being in Communication Research”
  • Felicity Dogbatse (Graduate Student) won third place in the Best Teaching Idea competition for "Analyzing Political Campaign Ads"

Graduate Student Showcase:  

The showcase had eight presenters (including UMD COMMunity members Miriam Komuhendo and Faith Otchere) who shared their teaching and research interests at the Graduate Student Research Showcase.
