Congrats to Esther on this achievement!
COMM Grad Student Esther Son has won a Southern Regional Education Board Doctoral Scholar Award!
The Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that works with policymakers to help students prepare for college and their careers. The goal of their Doctoral Scholars Award Program is to increase the number of minority students who earn doctorates and choose to become faculty at colleges and universities.
UMD's Graduate School is an Institutional Funding Partner for the SREB Doctoral Scholar Award. Only four applicants are chosen to be SREB Doctoral Scholars each year.
SREB Doctor Scholars receive financial assistance and research funding, career counseling, and access to a wide scholarly network. Mentoring and advocating on behalf of scholars is a key component of their work, and support continues early into their careers as graduates become faculty members.
Congrats on this amazing honor, Esther!
