Do Good Institute Faculty Fellows

Fellows to offer enriched classroom experiences with real-world applications.

Congratulations to department members Alyson Farzad-Phillips, Jim Golden, and Damien Smith Pfister for being selected as 2017-2019 Do Good Institute Faculty Fellows!

This is the pilot year of the Do Good Institute Faculty Fellows program, which replaces the Stamp Service-Learning Faculty Fellows Program. The Fellows will be partners in Do Good’s mission to offer rich learning experiences with real-world applications, helping students to translate their ambitious goals into social outcomes that uplift communities. Fellows will propose and implement an innovative Do Good course or curriculum in the Department of Communication. They will receive a $2,500 stipend, in-depth training on engaging social entrepreneurship in their teaching, and one-on-one guidance from Dr. Barbara Jacoby, a highly experienced faculty member who facilitated the Stamp Service-Learning Faculty Fellows program at UMD for several years.

We are proud of these three members of our community for being selected as Do Good Institute Faculty Fellows. Although there were initially two fellowships available, the Do Good Institute offered a third to the Department of Communication. These three Fellows bring a diversity of interest and experience to the program, and represent all three of our program’s major teaching designations (graduate teaching assistants, tenure-track faculty, and professional-track faculty).
