May 08, 2025 Communication

Grad Program Award

We are very proud of our Graduate Program!

The Department of Communication's Graduate Program has received the Program Award for Graduate Student Mentorship from UMD's Graduate School!

The award recognizes and honors graduate programs on campus who are setting standards of excellence in mentorship. Our department was chosen based on the following criteria: 1) having a strong Statement of Expectations for Graduate Student Mentoring; and 2) receiving excellent feedback from our graduate students on gradSERU survey questions about the quality of faculty mentoring and advising. This is the third year this award has been given.

We would like to thank our Graduate Directors who created and implemented our mentoring plan; Carly Woods and Kang Namkoong created it and Sun Young Lee and Lindsey Anderson implemented it. Thanks also to Ray Chang and our staff for providing support to our graduate program. Thanks to faculty members who are providing such meaningful mentorship for our graduate students. And thanks to our graduate student leaders who helped shape the new mentoring guidelines and who provide important leadership in our department everyday.

Our program was honored with this distinction at the Graduate School’s Annual Fellowship and Award Celebration on May 13.

Congrats to all!
