Faculty members, students, alumni, and friends of the department attended the 17th Annual Grunig Lecture on Tuesday, March 11. Dr. Krishnamurthy Sriramesh delivered the annual lecture on "Culture and Public Relations: A Global Program of Research." In-person and virtually, guests attended the lecture from Canada, Indonesia, Ghana, Australia, Hungary, Argentina, Malaysia, Cyprus, Peru, Brazil, China, Tokyo, India, New York City, Maryland, and more!
Dr. Krishnamurthy Sriramesh
Dr. Krishnamurthy Sriramesh is a Professor of Public Relations at the University of Colorado. As one of the top 5 most cited global public relations scholars, Dr. Sriramesh’s talk examined the relationship between culture and public relations. He focused on the historical context of culture and public relations that helped create, and can respond to, the contemporary moment. Dr. Krishnamurthy Sriramesh was bestowed the Grunig Alumni Excellence Award.
The 17th Annual Grunig Lecture was presented by the University of Maryland’s Department of Communication. The lecture series honors Dr. James E. Grunig, Professor Emeritus, and Dr. Larissa A. Grunig, Professor Emerita, of the University of Maryland.

In addition to the lecture, Emma Seifer was awarded the Toth Outstanding PR Student of the Year Award. Named for retired Lecturer Richard Toth and Professor Elizabeth Toth, the Toth award recognizes academic excellence, leadership, and contributions to the PR field. Emma’s combination of passion, leadership, and excellence makes her a deserving recipient!
