Thomas McCloskey, Ph.D., is a COMM 107 instructor. Prior to joining UMD, Thomas coached a nationally competitive speech and debate team and served as a Peace Corps Volunteer English Teacher in Ukraine.

Thomas holds a Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Maryland with an emphasis in Rhetoric & Political Culture. His dissertation research focused on the development of nationalism in the former Soviet Union and how the ongoing Ukrainian conflict reflects tensions between the myths and memories of the Soviet Union and a larger push towards European integration and internationalism. Thomas also holds an M.A. in Communication from California State University Long Beach, and a B.A. in Politics from Willamette University. He resides in Silver Spring with his wife Laura, daughter June, and son Gus.
