Rachel S. Bailey is a new Lecturer at the University of Maryland, teaching oral communication. She has also taught public speaking, interviewing, rhetorical criticism, and composition. Rachel holds a B.A. in public relations from the Grady School of Journalism at the University of Georgia and a M.A. in English Literature from the University of Central Florida with a focus in twentieth century American literature and feminist theory. In 2021 she earned a graduate certificate in health and science communication from the University of Georgia (UGA) and is currently completing a PhD in Communication Studies at UGA with a focus in rhetoric, public health, and U.S. mythology. Her dissertation investigates deployment of American exceptionalism as a promotional rhetoric of genomics by the National Institutes of Health. Outside the classroom, Rachel Bailey serves as editor of the PWH® Connect Journal, the official publication of Professional Women in Healthcare®. The leadership development organization is dedicated to creating a culturally inclusive healthcare industry equally led by women.
