Kate Smitherman is a doctoral student pursuing her Ph.D. in Communication Studies on the Political and Public Culture track. She earned her B.A. in Communication Studies from Texas Tech University where she also minored in Public Relations and Women and Gender Studies. Kate also attended Texas Tech for her M.A. in Communication Studies. During her master's program, she worked as the Editorial Assistant for Rhetoric and Public Affairs. Her work has been presented at the National Communication Association Conference, the Popular Culture Association Conference, and Texas Tech's annual Women and Gender Studies Conference. Her intersectional feminist work focuses on issues of reproductive justice and gender in political and popular culture.
